Workshop Brochure (pdf)
DownloadWe offer professional development workshops at your school and in our center. Our workshops are based on the years of sound research in the fields of Literacy and Special Education. These workshops are tailored to your school's specific needs. Cost is $125 per hour. We offer a wide range of topics including:
(meets NJ 2-hour requirement) K-3 or 4-8.
This training covers what Dyslexia looks like in the classroom, gives tips and strategies for working with students who may have dyslexia, covers the school’s role in identifying students, the role of RTI and when to involve the Child Study Team. The training covers other cognitive factors that affect reading acquisition. Staff will also learn ways to use technology to aid in student development.
In this workshop Paras learn about their role as a classroom or 1-on-1 aide, what they should expect to do in the classroom, and how to better communicate with the classroom teacher to meet the individual students’ needs. They will get an overview of common learning differences and how to best work with students to achieve IEP goals. This workshop also has a teacher component to help districts understand what a Paraprofessional needs in order to be an active, effective team member.
Does your program meet the standards and follow the research-based best practices for literacy instruction? We can help you integrate curriculum components to be sure your students are receiving quality, effective literacy instruction every day. Helping teachers understand how students learn to read is far more effective than purchasing a new curriculum.
In this workshop teachers and paras can build knowledge and understanding about learning differences such as AD/HD, Executive Dysfunction, Visual and Auditory Processing, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Autism Spectrum, and more. We will explore what these differences mean for a student and how teachers and paras can help make accommodations that will allow these students to be successful in the classroom.
In this workshop general education and special education teachers can build knowledge and understanding about learning differences that students may have in the classroom, what accommodations are appropriate, how to differentiate lessons so all students can have access to the general education curriculum and meet their specific IEP goals.
Support is available to help teachers with classroom and curriculum implementation from setting up a literacy rich environment to grouping students for reading groups and how to provide Tier 1 supports in the classroom. We work with individual teachers and grade level teams to streamline programs and help teachers collect meaningful data on their students. We can also help teachers muddle through district data to pull what they need to help their students. These meetings are tailored to each teacher’s needs and/or district requests.
Sessions are delivered in a minimum of 2-hour chunks and include at least one observation in the classroom during a normal school day.
We offer professional development workshops in our center for parents and caregivers. Our workshops are based on the years of sound research in the fields of Literacy and Special Education.
